Corbin High School senior football standout Treyveon Longmire may not be suiting up for the University of Kentucky next fall. Longmire, who had committed to play for Coach Mark Stoops back in the spring, announced on his Twitter page that he would be looking at other schools. “After talking to my family, I am going to re-open my recruitment and explore all my options,” Longmire wrote Friday afternoon hashtagging it with #GODSPLAN. Corbin makes masks optional beginning Nov. 15

The Corbin Board of Education voted unanimously to make masks optional district wide beginning Monday, Nov. 15 during Thursday’s meeting. The “Motion to make masks optional (ie. Parent/guardian preference) throughout Corbin School District,” was made by board member Todd Childers. The motion also included the caveat that the mask policy could be changed in the future. The board agreed that masks would be optional district wide including on school buses. The motion was made since Whitley County is currently no longer in the red zone for COVID incidence rate. Corbin man charged with using frying pan, teeth in assaults Friday

A Corbin man is facing assault charges involving a frying a pan, his teeth and alcohol, stemming from an incident early Friday morning. James Faircloth, 61, was charged with first-degree assault, second-degree assault – domestic violence, first-degree terroristic threatening, second-degree fleeing or evading police, menacing, first-degree wanton endangerment, alcohol intoxication in a public place and endangering the welfare of a minor. Whitley County Sheriff’s Deputy Chad Estep was called to an apartment on Little Spruce Creek Road, off of Corinth Cemetery Road, in response to a disturbance complaint. Accident downs two electric poles, closes two Corbin schools

A single vehicle accident resulted in two downed electric poles and virtual learning for students at the Corbin Educational Center and Corbin High School Wednesday morning. Crews were dispatched to the accident on Main Street in Corbin near City Hall at approximately 7 a.m. The driver was not injured, but the collision with an electric pole caused the pole to break, said Corbin Fire Department Battalion Chief Jack Partin. The downed pole caused tension on another line at 9th and Main and caused it to break as well. Electricity is down in the area and is expected to remain down for several hours. Corbin Lady Redhounds win 13th Region Volleyball title

The Corbin Lady Redhounds are 13th Region Volleyball Champions. Corbin defeated Whitley County in four sets, 25-19, 16-25, 25-12, 25-16. Corbin will host the 10th Region champion in the first round of the state tournament on Monday. The 10th Region championship is scheduled to be played on Thursday.

Lynn Camp forfeits Friday night match-up against W’burg

The Williamsburg-Lynn Camp high school football game, which had been scheduled for Friday night in Williamsburg, has been canceled. We Rock Sports is reporting that Lynn Camp has forfeited the match-up because it doesn't have enough healthy players. The game would have been Williamsburg's senior night. The Kentucky High School Athletic Association already has Williamsburg officially winning the game 1-0 as a result of the forfeit. Williamsburg's next game is an away game at Perry County Central. Grand jury clears Corbin Police officer of wrongdoing in February shooting

A Whitley County grand jury has cleared Corbin Police Corporal Steve Meadors of any wrongdoing in the February fatal shooting incident. The grand jury returned, “no true bill” in the case, meaning it found insufficient evidence to return an indictment. Kentucky State Police were called to investigate after Meadors shot and killed Phillip N. Davenport, 20, of Corbin, during an altercation at approximately 3:30 a.m. on Dogwood Cove off of Sanderlin Drive. A bad brake: Car runs up guy wire in Corbin

A black Ford Taurus ran up the guy wire of an electric pole at the intersection of Kentucky Avenue and Gordon Street Monday afternoon. Corbin Fire Department was dispatched at 12:11 p.m., said Battalion Chief Chad Jackson. The driver stated he was coming down Gordon Hill and lost his brakes, said Jackson. The driver said he swerved to avoid hitting another car, and he went up the guy wire. The male driver and female passenger were still inside the vehicle when the fire department arrived. Update: A Golden Alert for Arnold Young and his son, Darrick Young, has been canceled. Both subjects were located safe, Whitley County 911 said in an e-mail to media outlets at 5:33 p.m. Tuesday. Original story The Whitley County Sheriff’s Department issued a Golden Alert late Monday afternoon for a missing father and son. The Golden Alert is for Arnold Young, 62, and his son, Darrick E. U.S. 25 between Corbin and London open to traffic following fatal crash

U.S. 25 between Corbin and London is, once again, open to traffic following a Tuesday morning fatal crash. Laurel County Sheriff’s Deputy Gilbert Acciardo, the department’s public affairs officer, said the crash occurred at approximately 10:45 a.m. in the Lily community.
