He was born September 11, 1956 in Independence, Missouri to the late John Anderson and Frances Cox Hughes. Along with his father he was preceded in death by his step-father Thomas Hughes Sr. Jerry attended Hope City Church in Whitley City, Ky., he graduated from Whitley County High School and was a member of Williamsburg Masonic Lodge #490 F&AM.
