Corbin baseball, softball hounds fall in state tournament

The Corbin Redhounds baseball team were disappointed in the opening round of the 2022 KHSAA state championship tournament in Lexington this afternoon, losing 2-1 to the Central Hardin Bruins. The Hounds finish out the season with an overall record of 26 wins and 13 losses. In other news, the Corbin softball team also fell in state tournament opening round action, losing to Louisville Holy Cross, 8-0. The Lady Hounds end their season at 20-14 overall. Congrats to both teams on making it to state in 2022!

(Story by Trevor Sherman) Going into the 2022 13th Region baseball tournament, most fans expected to see a 50th District championship rematch in the finals between the Corbin Redhounds and the Whitley County Colonels. All signs seemed to point to that inevitable matchup after Whitley downed Jackson in the first round and Corbin made easy work of the Knox Central Panthers, but the Colonels were stunned in the tournament semifinals, falling to Middlesboro, 7-3. CHS Baseball Redhounds crowned 13th Region champs

The Corbin Redhounds are your 2022 13th Region champions! The Hounds defeated Middlesboro 9-1 Saturday to improve to 25-12 on the year and advance to next week's KHSAA state championship tournament. They will play the winners of Region 5 on Friday, June 3, at 10 a.m. All state tournament games will be played at the University of Kentucky's Kentucky Proud Park in Lexington. Most first round games in baseball/softball regional tournaments postponed

(Story by Trevor Sherman) The 2022 13th Region baseball and softball tournaments were scheduled to get underway Monday, but most games had to be postponed due to wet field conditions after a full day of steady rainfall. The only teams who managed to get their game in on Monday were the Whitley County Colonels and the Jackson County Generals. The Colonels defeated Jackson County 4-2, improving to 27-10 on the year and advancing to the regional semis, where they will face the winners of Middlesboro and Barbourville at South Laurel High School. Hounds, Colonels, Jackets trying to find their groove as regular season nears finish

The Corbin Redhounds’ six-game winning streak that included a sweep of Whitley County, came to an end Saturday with losses at home to Pikeville and Russell County. Corbin won at Whitley County last Tuesday, 7-3 and picked up the 3-1 win over the Colonels at home on Wednesday. Jeremiah Gilbert pitched the complete game for the Redhounds on Tuesday, giving up three runs, one earned, on eight hits while striking out five. The first 13th Region standings were posted this week by the Kentucky High School Athletic Association on Tuesday and Whitley County, Corbin and Williamsburg are among the pack that has yet to see any separation. Coach Jeremy Philpot’s Corbin Redhounds have bounced back from their four-game losing streak, picking up wins at home against Franklin County, Somerset and Clay County to even out their season record at 4-4. The Corbin Redhounds are searching for some momentum early in the season and they will have four straight home games beginning Thursday in which to find it. Coach Cody Philpot’s team got out of the gate good last Thursday, picking up an 11-7 win over visiting Perry Central. The Corbin Redhounds Baseball team is coming off a 2021 season that saw them win 26 games and the 50th District title before falling to Jackson County in the 13th Region Tournament. Even with the loss of seven seniors, Coach Cody Philpot said that his team will be very similar.
