The University of the Cumberlands women’s basketball team have already made history by playing their way into the final four of this year’s NAIA tournament in Sioux City, IA, and with a win Monday evening they will be one step closer to realizing their ultimate goal of hoisting a national championship trophy. The Corbin Redhounds jumped out to an early lead against Harlan County in Monday night's 13th Region championship game at the Corbin Arena, but in the end the Black Bears punched their tickets to Rupp Arena with a 62-48 win. Head Coach Tony Pietrowski's Hounds looked good in the early stages of the game, building up a 12-5 lead by the end of the first quarter. Corbin girls close out season with loss to NL in 13th Region championship game

The Corbin Lady Hounds stayed within striking distance of the defending 13th Region champion North Laurel Lady Jaguars throughout most of Saturday night's game at the Arena, but in the end, the Jags were able to pull away for a 61-49 victory to repeat as regional champs. With the loss, Corbin ends their 2023-24 campaign with an overall record of 22 wins and nine losses. For the second straight year, the Corbin Redhounds have advanced to the championship game of the 13th Region tournament. The Hounds, who are now 23-8 on the year, faced off against the Knox Central Panthers Saturday afternoon in the semifinal round of this year’s region tournament at the Corbin Arena. With a 62-55 win over Knox Central Friday evening, Head Coach Isaac Wilson’s Corbin Lady Hounds punched their tickets to this year’s 13th Region tournament championship game. Knox did not make things easy Friday, making the Lady Hounds work for every basket. Lady Panther Halle Collins impressed with a game-high 31 points, but in the end, it was not enough as Corbin fought through adversity to take the win. After first round action in the girls’ 2024 13th Region tournament on Monday and Tuesday, it was the boys’ turn to take center stage in the Corbin Arena Wednesday night. In game one Wednesday, the Knox Central Panthers (22-9) knocked off the defending region champion North Laurel Jaguars, 72-65. The Jackson County Lady Generals did not make it easy, but the Corbin Lady Hounds were able to do what they needed to do to secure a 56-49 victory Tuesday evening at the Corbin Arena. After trading losses against each other in the regular season, the Corbin Lady Hounds topped the South Laurel Lady Cardinals Thursday evening, 74-68, to secure this year’s 50th District championship title. “Obviously, I am through the roof,” said Corbin senior Kallie Housley. “I am so excited, especially since this is the last time that we (seniors) will get to play in a district tournament game.
