Kicker Jacob Baker’s leg has been a crucial weapon in the Corbin Redhounds’ offensive arsenal for the past four years. Since he was a freshman in 2019 he has been nearly automatic with his extra points and field goals, and now, as a senior, he is second to only running back Cameron Combs in overall points scored on the season. While Baker’s exceptional kicking abilities have earned him a spot on the Eastern Kentucky University football roster beginning next season, he is also contributing to the Redhounds’ historic run...

Considering the Redhounds had already defeated Franklin County 40-20 in the regular season, many thought that the outcome of Friday’s rematch in the KHSAA Class 4A state semifinals was a foregone conclusion. Franklin didn’t get that memo, however, pushing Corbin to their limits at Campbell Field before ultimately falling by the final score of 49-35. A back-and-forth affair featuring a lot of big plays on offense by both sides, Friday’s contest was all knotted up at 21-21 going into the half. The defending Class 4A state champion Boyle County Rebels (11-2) are set to host the Louisville Central Yellow Jackets (9-4) this week in semifinal round playoff action. The Rebels’ two losses on the year came against Lexington Catholic (28-27 on Oct. 7) and Fredrick Douglass (37-6 on Oct. 28). Boyle gained retribution against Lexington Catholic last week, ending the Knights’ season with a 41-21 defeat. Central, meanwhile, has suffered losses to DuPont Manual (40-12 on Aug. 19), St. Xavier (44-8 on Aug. 26), Belfry (24-21 on Sept. 9) and South Warren (24-0 on Sept. 23). The Corbin Redhounds’ undefeated season continued in dominating fashion last week as the team recorded their sixth straight shutout victory, this time downing the visiting Letcher County Central Cougars, 49-0. With the win, Coach Tom Greer’s squad has now bested opponents by a combined score of 297-0 dating back to October 7. The 2022 high school football regular season is now complete, and all coverage area teams are beginning preparations for postseason play to kick off next week. The Corbin Redhounds finished their regular season schedule with a perfect 10-0 record, defeating visiting Campbell County 42-0. The Hounds have won their last four games by the combined score of 193-0. Next week, they will host the Harlan County Black Bears (4-6) in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs. The Williamsburg Yellow Jackets picked up a 26-16 win over the Harlan Green Dragons, improving to 4-2 on the season, 1-0 in district play.
