Senior Spotlight: 2016 Corbin girls soccer

The Corbin Lady Hounds soccer team only has a few more games remaining on their regular season schedule. From there, they will begin their quest to successfully defend their 49th District and 13th Region championship crowns. Leading that effort this fall are two seniors – Kara Grisell and Mallory Allen. Both 17-years-old, Allen plays forward and Grisell plays at right wing. The Whitley County girls soccer team has seen much improvement in 2016. Despite being a young group with no seniors on the roster, they have displayed a good amount of confidence and skill on the pitch. On Monday, the Lady Colonels picked up their ninth win of the season, dominating the visiting Knox Central Lady Panthers 9-1. “I think their passing and trapping is looking a lot stronger,” said Head Coach Kelly Sawyers when asked after the game to talk about the state of her team. “We’re making good runs to get to open areas of the field as well.” “The only thing we need to continue to work on is finishing,”...

The streak continues: Wildcats hope to make it six in a row against Clinton Co The Lynn Camp Wildcats continued their current win streak last Friday night, defeating the visiting Jellico Blue Devils 40-38. Senior Spotlight: 2016 Corbin Volleyball

The Corbin Lady Hounds came into last week’s First Priority Volleyball Classic with some positive momentum after picking up a thrilling 3-2 (20-25, 25-18, 25-22, 20-25, 15-5) win over Whitley County on Thursday, September 15. The early stages of the classic did not go well for the Hounds, however, as they went 0-3 in pool play, placing them in the Silver Bracket competition Saturday afternoon. Luckily, they were able to make some adjustments and bounce back, winning three straight games over Pendleton County, Somerset and Rockcastle County to become champions of the bracket, ending the tournament on a high note after their disappointing start. The Whitley County Colonels improved their record to 3-1 on the year with a 20-6 victory at Bell County. The Colonels will be back at home next week when they welcome in the South Laurel Cardinals. Whitley, Williamsburg football teams victorious in week 3

It was a good night in Williamsburg last Friday, with both the Yellow Jackets and the Whitley County Colonels picking up wins on their home turf. It was a tight one over at Finley-Legion Field, but Head Coach Jerry Herron’s Yellow Jackets were finally able to secure their first victory of 2016, defeating Frankfort by just one point, 34-33. Junior quarterback Alec Poore shined in the win for Williamsburg, passing for 150 yards and throwing one TD to senior receiver Hagen Hawn, who ended the night with over 100 yards receiving. Lion’s Chase sees record turnout in 2016

The Lion’s Chase 5K saw a record turnout this year, with over 650 participants signing up in hopes of bringing home the obstacle race’s coveted championship sword. “This was our fifth year,” said director Jeff Sparks. “We started with around 225-250 runners, and we have seen exponential growth every year. What I attribute that to is that every year more and more people have a positive experience, and they want to come back with a friend.
