The 49th District champion Corbin Lady Hounds improved their season record to 11-10 Tuesday night, advancing to this year's 13th Region championship game with a 10-0 victory over Harlan County. Junior Carly Stone got the scoring started against the Lady Bears with a goal at the 25:56 mark in the first half of play. Stone then made it 2-0 with a second goal at 18:26. The Corbin Lady Hounds advanced to Tuesday night's 50th District championship at North Laurel High School by winning a five set thriller against South Laurel on Monday (see the full story in the 10/19 edition of the News Journal). The Hounds met up with the host Lady Jaguars in the district finals, but this time they didn't need a full five sets to get the job done. UC Archery Wins Back-to-Back USIAC 3D National Titles

UC Archery hit the road this past weekend looking to capture their second straight USIAC 3D National Championship in Carrier Mills, Illinois. With 18 teams competing this past weekend, the Pats knew it would be a tough road to another title, but with some phenomenal performances combined with the consistent shooting efforts, UC came away with the USIAC 3D National Championship. Beginning with individual Men’s Bowhunter, Jayson Byrd would find his way onto the podium with a second place finish with a score of 404 with 11 12’s. ORIGINAL: On Tuesday, the Corbin boys and girls soccer teams were in action in this year's 49th District tournament. At North Laurel, the Lady Hounds faced Oneida Baptist Institute in their first game of the tourney. The Hounds had little trouble, with goals by Kara Grisell, Sarah Fryer and two goals from Abby Baker putting them up 4-0 at the half. They continued to dominate in the second half, with Baker scoring four more goals and Mady Saylor scoring one to give Corbin the 9-0 victory. On Monday, the Whitley County girls and boys soccer teams saw their seasons come to a close with losses to Oneida Baptist Institute in the first round of this year’s 49th District tournament, being played in London at North and South Laurel High Schools. The field is set for this year’s 49th District soccer tournaments, scheduled to take place next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at South and North Laurel High Schools in London. The Corbin Redhounds fell 1-0 to Pulaski County Monday evening, giving them an overall record of 7-8 heading into next week’s district tourney, where they will be facing the North Laurel Jaguars in the semifinal round. The Whitley County Lady Colonels volleyball team improved to 20-6 on the year Monday, defeating Corbin in three straight sets (25-18, 26-24, 25-22). The game, played at Corbin, was a rematch from September 15, when the Lady Hounds traveled down the road to Williamsburg and came away with a thrilling 3-2 win (20-25, 25-18, 25-22, 20-25, 15-5).
