Whitley Circuit Judge Paul Winchester has scheduled a fall trial date for two Williamsburg men, who are accused of assaulting and robbing a University of the Cumberlands' student late last year.
During a pre-trial conference Tuesday morning, Winchester scheduled a Sept. 28 trial date for both Devon Preyer, 21, and Davonta Rozier, 23, on charges of second-degree assault and first-degree robbery.
According to their indictments, Rozier and Preyer allegedly individually and/or in complicity with another beat victim Zane Parker causing him serious physical injury, and used physical force on Parker while in the course of committing a theft.

A Williamsburg man is being held behind bars after allegedly firing a shotgun in the direction of five children Sunday afternoon.
About 3:30 p.m., Williamsburg Police Sgt. Brandon White and K-9 Officer Elijah Hunter responded to a shots fire complaint in the Brush Arbor community.
When officers arrived at Brush Arbor Apartments, several residents told police that Cody C. Mullis, 25, was allegedly drunk behind apartment 694 shooting a shotgun in the direction of five small children, who were on the playground behind the apartment, according a police release and the arrest citation.

Those wanting to ride bicycles as a mode of transportation in Williamsburg will soon have some additional places where they park and secure their bicycles thanks to an effort being spearheaded by the Williamsburg Bicycle Coalition.

Corbin Police say the man who broke into Mr. Gatti’s Pizza Thursday morning may be a current or former employee.
“He would have had to known the layout of the store,” said Corbin Police Detective Rusty Hedrick who is investigating the burglary.
Hedrick said the man made entry into the business at Corbin Station about 4:30 a.m. through a back door that leads into a generator room. Video surveillance from neighboring business showed him going inside, but provided no details as to how he got the door open.

After weeks of attempts, officials at The Arena in Corbin announced that they have been unable to reach an agreement with promoters to rescheduled Brad Paisley’s concert.
The Country music superstar was scheduled to perform in Corbin on Jan. 23 as part of his current tour.
However, the event was postponed because of heavy snow that blanketed the area on Jan. 22.
“After weeks of trying, we unfortunately are unable to reschedule the Brad Paisley concert this spring,” Arena officials stated on the facility’s Facebook page.
Ticket refunds may be obtained at the point of purchase.

Knox-Whitley Animal Shelter is pleased to have received a grant from Best Friends Animal Society to conduct Low Cost spay and neuters for helping to reduce the number of animals entering Knox-Whitley Animal Shelter.
“This grant means that we can add this low-cost spay/neuter project to our efforts this year to decrease the number of unwanted dogs and cats entering our local shelter,” said Deanna Myers. “Our goal is to perform 277 spay/neuter operations over the next year.
