The Kentucky House of Representatives has passed HB 165, which was sponsored by 82nd Rep. This legislation makes some changes to the Employee Child Care Assistance Program to better serve Kentuckians across the state.
“The Employee Child Care Assistance Program is a crucial part of increasing and strengthening the workforce across the commonwealth, which is why it is important the legislation serves all parties involved. This program tackles one of the biggest barriers Kentuckians face when wanting to go back to work which is childcare, so ensuring that the program’s efficiency report is given to the LRC earlier allows us to continue to improve the program in following legislative sessions,” said Wilson.
The bill makes two changes to the Employee Child Care Assistance Program. The first change requires the Cabinet for Health and Family Services to report to the Legislative Research Commission regarding the program on Dec. 15, 2023. The current reporting date is December 2024. The second change permits a childcare provider, who is in contract with the employer to terminate a contract pursuant to the program. Where currently only the employer or employee taking part in the program can terminate the contract.
