Mildred Jean Powell Lockhart, 87 of Corbin, passed away Thursday January 4, 2018 at her home in Corbin.

She was born February 3, 1930 in Corbin, to the late Thomas Allen and Lona Sams Powell.

She was a long-time, active member of First Baptist Church in Corbin.

Mildred retired after working many years as a Teachers’ Aid for the Knox County School System and Cumberland River Comprehensive Care Center.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by five brothers: Bill, Luther, James, Thermond and Ed Powell , four sisters Delpha Abramson, Beulah Steele, Thelma Moore, and Evelyn Eubanks and son Mark A. Lockhart.

She is survived by her husband Robert Lockhart, daughter Bobbie Mitchell and husband Rev. Ronnie of Corbin; one sister, Elizabeth Owens of Florida; four grandchildren: Tara Stradley and husband Chaz of Corbin,Robert Lockhart and wife Brandy of Lexington, Rebecca Hatfield and Brandon Queen of Corbin, and Jason Hatfield and wife April of Memphis, TN. eight great grand children, Karli Queen, Michael Hatfield, Calix Lockhart, Mason Lockhart, Axton Mills, Colton Stradley, and Caden Stradley, plus a host of other relatives and friends to mourn her passing.

The family would also like to mention Myra Bush who is a special extended member of our family.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 9, at the O’Neil-Lawson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Austin Carty and Paul Sims officiating.

Burial will be in the Lynn Camp Cemetery on Wednesday, January 10, at 11 a.m. with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
