For anyone looking for some plans this weekend, the City of Williamsburg has you covered.
There are several events being held this weekend in both Williamsburg and other nearby communities. Among the selections this weekend, the second annual Oktoberfest at the Green Space on Main in downtown Williamsburg is shaping up to be a good time for all.
Oktoberfest is set to take place Saturday from 4 to 10 p.m. and there will be a variety of food and drink to select from. Of the food vendors expected to be on-hand are the Little Mills Bakehouse, Double R Smokehouse and Moonbow Mercantile. Local restaurants situated downtown will also be open during much of the event and will also be taking customers.
There will once again be alcoholic beverages available this year from The Butcher’s Pub, Bourbon Barn and Shale Oak Wine Tasting. Anyone expecting to purchase alcohol must be 21 or older, though other beverages will also be available.
Live music will be performed at the stage at the Green Space on Main throughout the event, with country artists the Johnny Holland Band set to open the evening’s lineup from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. At 7 p.m., Club Rewind will take the stage to rock out with a number of ‘80s favorites until the event wraps up. Music will also be provided by Mark Huber from 4 to 5 p.m. before the bands begin.
For the sports fanatics, a slate of college football games is expected to be available for viewing throughout the event as well.
Those who want to stay and watch the bands are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.
Though there will be alcoholic drinks available, the event will be family friendly, with an assortment of games for children to keep themselves busy with, such as cornhole, giant jenga and a sidewalk chalk station.
In addition to the food and drink vendors, there will be a number of retail vendors also available, including the Face Lab, Hot Pink Boutique and more.
Williamsburg Mayor Roddy Harrison said that he was excited for this year’s Oktoberfest and asked the community to come out and support the vendors.
“We’ve got a great evening planned for everyone,” said Harrison. “We’ve got plenty of vendors. We’re going to have some brats, hot dogs and cold beverages; but for those who aren’t brat fans, you can still get you a burger or whatever and have a good time.”
The portion of S. 3rd St. between Main Street and Cumberland Ave. will be closed to traffic during the event. Harrison also noted that with the event growing in size this year, a portion of Main Street from S. 3rd St. to N. 4th St. will be closed as well. Traffic will still be able to turn right at the Whitley County Board of Education building, but will not be able to proceed any further down Main Street.
Saturday is also this year’s annual Heritage Day event hosted by the Whitley County Historical and Genealogical Society. That event will be held at the old train depot just off Main Street in downtown Williamsburg beginning at 10 a.m.
Those in attendance will have the opportunity to tour the train depot, which is filled with a variety of old artifacts from Williamsburg and the region, and learn about their genealogy.
Just across the street, the Lane Theater will be holding the second night of The Haunted Theater, a haunted-house-style tour through the historic theater that will also act as a fundraiser for remodeling efforts. The tours begin this Friday night and continue each Friday and Saturday throughout October from 7 p.m. to 12 a.m.
Finally, the City of Jellico’s annual Fall Festival is also being held Friday and Saturday in downtown Jellico, which promises a number of vendors, crafts and entertainment.
