One person injured in Corbin house explosion on 11th Street

Date:

A Corbin resident suffered minor injuries Saturday night following an explosion at his home on 11th Street.

Corbin firefighters were called to the scene about 7 p.m. in response to a report of an explosion with a structure fire and possible entrapment.

“There was actually an explosion but no fire,” said Corbin Fire Captain Jack Partin.

One man, later identified as Arnold Stevens, was inside of the home.

Partin said firefighters made entry through an opening on one side of the home caused by the explosion, extricating Stevens from the area near the bathroom.

Stevens suffered minor injuries, including bruises, cuts and burns. He was taken by ambulance to Baptist Health Corbin.

Partin said the explosion blew out both sides and the back of the house, causing extensive damage to the foundation area.

The cause of the blast is under investigation.

Partin said the explosion had rendered the home unstable. As a result, firefighters and Delta Natural Gas employees were unable to go back inside.

Officials are scheduled to return to the scene Monday to continue the investigation.

Firefighters were on scene for about two hours performing salvage, overhaul and security.
