The City of Williamsburg will be offering free horse drawn carriage rides Friday and Saturday at the Green Space on Main as part of its “Loving in the Burg Week” in recognition of Valentine’s Day.
The free carriage rides will be from 6-8 p.m. on Friday and 2-5 p.m. on Saturday. Richard Meadors and Sally Gap Pumpkin Patch will be providing the carriage rides.
Williamsburg Mayor Roddy Harrison told the Williamsburg City Council Monday during its regular monthly meeting that some local restaurants will also be offering specials as part of “Loving in the Burg Week.”
Harrison also announced that city hall will be closed on Monday, Feb. 16, in recognition of President’s Day, but sanitation would run on its regular schedule.
The city council also approved a new lease with Boyd Cat for sanitation and maintenance equipment during the meeting.
In addition, council members discussed various issues.
Councilman Loren Connell noted that he still has a problem seeing college students who are crossing Main Street near campus after dark despite a brighter light there. He encouraged studying the issue to see if there is a way to improve the situation.
He also suggested that the city try to come up with some funding to expand the fire department building so that the city’s ladder fire truck can fit inside and be better protected.
So far, the city has been unsuccessful in finding grant funding to do this.
Harrison noted that the ladder truck will fit into the first bay in the sanitation building and he has met with Kentucky Highlands about possible funding to expand the fire department building.
