Welfare check leads to drug arrest

Date:

Laurel County Sheriff’s deputies called to perform a welfare check on an individual walking north on Interstate 75 Wednesday morning found assorted drugs and drug paraphernalia.

Deputy Gilbert Acciardo, the department’s public affairs officer, said deputies arrested Christopher Scott, 29, of Barbourville after locating him just north of Exit 29.

A check by Laurel County dispatchers revealed that Scott had an outstanding bench warrant.

“In addition, this subject was found in possession of prescription pill not in a proper container (of which he had not prescription for), a clear baggie with suspected meth residue and five syringes,” Acciardo stated.

Scott was charged with third-degree possession of a controlled substance, controlled substances not in property container and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The warrant charges Scott with failure to appear in Knox District Court on charges of operating a motor vehicle on a suspended or revoked operator’s license and other traffic violations.
