Whitley Fiscal Court to opt out of medical cannabis sales

Date:

The Whitley County Fiscal Court has taken the first steps in opting out of allowing medical cannabis businesses to operate within the county’s boundaries.

Medical cannabis has become a growing topic of debate throughout Kentucky over the last few months following the passage of Senate Bill 47 earlier this year, which will legalize its use in the state beginning in January 2025. The fiscal court approved the first reading of an ordinance last Tuesday during their regular monthly meeting to prevent such businesses within Whitley County and are expected to hold a second reading and subsequent vote during their September meeting to finalize the decision.
