Saving lives is a legendary act. Kentucky Blood Center (KBC) is asking for local legends to rise to the occasion and donate blood at an upcoming drive in Corbin on Wednesday (April 16).
As a token of appreciation, donors will receive a punny “Legend Dairy” T-shirt (while supplies last). In addition, all donors will receive a coupon for a free Mr. Gatti’s buffet and a $5 game card.
Mr. Gatti’s Pizza of Corbin will host the blood drive on Wednesday (April 16) from 3-7 p.m. at the KBC Bloodmobile, which will be located at 14889 N US25E, Suite 12, Corbin.
Local legends stepping up to donate blood is critical to maintaining a healthy blood supply as blood cannot be manufactured. The only way to provide lifesaving blood products for patients at more than 70 hospitals in Kentucky is through the generosity of donors.
The blood donation process is easy and has a major impact on the community. Whole blood donations take less than an hour from registration to refreshment. One donation can save up to three local lives.
Statistics show that one in four people will need a blood transfusion in their lifetime, and that one in seven people admitted to a hospital receive blood.
Blood donors must be at least 17 years old (16 with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds, be in general good health, show a photo I.D. and meet additional requirements. Sixteen-year-old donors must have a signed parental permission slip, which can be found at kybloodcenter.org.
Appointments are preferred but walk-ins are welcome. To schedule a donation, visit kybloodcenter.org or call (800) 775-2522.
KBC is the largest independent, full-service, nonprofit blood center in Kentucky, and has been saving local lives since 1968. KBC provides services in 90 Kentucky counties and has donor centers in Lexington, Louisville, Frankfort, Pikeville, Somerset and the Tri-County area (Corbin).
