Seven fire departments battle Davis Salvage blaze

From as far away as the entrance to Tattersall Trails Estates, a blaze at Davis Salvage, which is off US25W (Cumberland Falls Highway), sounded like a war zone with a lot of small explosions waking people from their sleep shortly before dawn Saturday morning. When first responders got on the scene, the heat from the blaze was scorching hot even as far back as the roadway. Firefighters from seven fire departments managed to contain the blaze to the main office, which was completely destroyed, but managed to keep the fire from spreading to vehicles around the multi-acre lot. Update: W’burg man charged with two counts of attempted murder after ramming police vehicle

A Williamsburg man, who is accused of trying to kill Whitley County Sheriff Danny Moses and Chief Deputy Tim Baker by ramming their police vehicle with his car, head on, on March 8, is being held in the Whitley County Detention Center in lieu of a $250,000 cash bond as he awaits a March 21 preliminary hearing. Fifth suspect wanted in connection with Friday drug bust captured Tuesday

Williamsburg Police officers recovered nearly one pound of suspected methamphetamine, a small quantity of heroin, a large amount of cash and drug paraphernalia on Lick Fork Road in eastern Whitley County Friday morning, and arrested four people at the scene on drug trafficking charges, according to a police department release. Update: The Williamsburg Police Department announced shortly after 1 p.m. Tuesday that the Williamsburg Independent School building had been searched and no hazardous or explosive devices were found. A six-year-old girl died after being hit by a vehicle Saturday evening in the Piney Grove community of Whitley County, and her uncle has been arrested in connection with the case. “It’s a horrible, horrible tragedy. My heart goes out to the family. It is just a horrible thing for the family,” said Whitley County Deputy Coroner William Steely. “It was just heartbreaking.” Whitley County Sheriff’s Sgt. Jonas Saunders arrested the girl’s uncle, Christopher Mullins, 40, of Williamsburg, charging him with first-degree assault in connection with the case. “He was determined to be under the influence,” Saunders noted. A six-year-old girl died after being hit by a vehicle Saturday evening in the Piney Grove community of Whitley County. Corbin City Commission approves appeal of annexation decision

The Corbin City Commission voted unanimously to approve and direct DBL (Dressman Benzinger Lavelle) Law to file an appeal in the Corbin-London annexation lawsuit during a special called meeting Wednesday. The vote follows Laurel Circuit Court Judge Gregory Lay's ruling to dismiss Corbin's annexation lawsuit regarding property near Exit 29 in southern Laurel County on Feb. 9. Lay found that neither the City of Corbin nor the City Utilities Commission have standing to file a suit against the City of London. Judge rules in London’s favor in Exit 29 annexation lawsuit

Laurel County Circuit Court Judge Gregory Lay has ruled in favor of London in the annexation lawsuit regarding property off of Exit 29. The decision was filed on Wednesday, and Lay granted London’s motion for summary judgement. “We have just received the ruling through our lawyers who are reviewing and will evaluate the possibility of an appeal,” said Corbin Mayor Suzie Razmus. Lay heard oral arguments from both London and Corbin’s attorneys in July 2021. Corbin officials filed a lawsuit in response to the London City Council approving the annexation of the former King's Truck Stop property. Jail employee arrested for intoxication while on duty Wednesday

A Whitley County Detention Center worker found herself on the other side of the law Wednesday morning after she was arrested for allegedly being intoxicated while at work. Williamsburg Police Officer Bryson Lawson arrested Kathleen Victoria Kramer, 31, of Williamsburg, charging her with public intoxication-controlled substance (excludes alcohol), possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and prescription controlled substance not in proper container. Williamsburg Police began investigating after receiving a call about a possibly intoxicated correctional officer at the jail, Lawson wrote on the arrest citation. W’burg man found dead under bridge Monday

No foul play is suspected in the death of a Williamsburg man, who was found dead under a bridge late Monday afternoon. Whitley County Coroner Andy Croley pronounced Joel L. Terrell, 48, dead at 5:38 p.m. Terrell was found unresponsive about 5:30 p.m. under a Cumberland River bridge off US25W near the Williamsburg Vendor’s Mall and Cumberland Regional Mall. Croley and Williamsburg Police Officers Greg Rhoades and Dorman Patrick Jr. are in charge of the investigation and continue to investigate the circumstances of Terrell’s death.
