A Lawrence Lewis goal two minutes into the game followed by a Whitley County own goal about twenty minutes later was enough to give Corbin a 2-0 victory over 49th District rival Whitley County Monday, but the Redhounds had several opportunities to make that final score much more lopsided.
Some shots on goal simply missed their mark for Corbin Monday, but many shots were kept out of the net thanks to solid play from Colonel goal keeper Jarred Havens. Regardless, Redhounds Head Coach Armando Cima was not pleased with his team’s overall performance, saying they need to improve in several areas moving forward this season.
Despite the loss, Whitley County Head...
The following are final scores of interest from high school football games played on Friday, August 26:

Whitley County got their first win of 2016 Friday, defeating Middlesboro at Colonel Stadium by the final score of 38-8. Whitley, now 1-1, will get a bye next week.
The Williamsburg Yellow Jackets fell to 0-2 on the season Friday, losing 42-27 on the road in Somerset. The Jackets will try again to put a...
On Thursday, it was announced that Andrew Roark would become Corbin High School’s newest Athletic Director.
Roark, who will begin his duties as the school’s new AD on Monday, is a 1998 graduate of South Laurel High School, where he played football as a Cardinal. He played collegiately at Georgetown, where he would later return as a student assistant. He also served as a student assistant at Union College in Barbourville before taking a coaching job in North Carolina in the early 2000’s.
Roark would later return home to Kentucky where he would coach at Bell County and North Laurel before eventually coming to Corbin nearly a decade ago. During his...
It was not a good night for either of the Whitley County soccer programs, as both the boys and girls teams lost to 49th District opponents Thursday at the WCHS soccer complex.
The boys team was coming off of an 8-1 victory over Middlesboro on Tuesday, and they were hoping to keep that positive momentum rolling with what would have been a huge win over district rival North Laurel Thursday night. It was not to be, however, as the Jaguars took a 3-0 lead with them into halftime, and then scored six goals in the final 40 minutes to take the 9-0 victory.
“We were pumped up coming off of the...
On a historic night in Williamsburg, Kentucky, the UC Football Patriots opened their 2016 season under the lights on Thursday night against the NAIA #17 ranked Tigers of Campbellsville University (CU). The Patriots would fall behind early, but would show grit and determination as they would score 23 straight points to take the lead. CU would score again in the 4th, but the Pats would hold tight for the 23-17 victory. The win moves the Patriots to 1-0 on the season.
In the 1st quarter, the Tigers would open the game with 10 unanswered points off two UC turnovers including a 37 yard field goal from Bradley Bates and an...
The Corbin Redhounds came out and took care of business against the visiting Whitley County Colonels last Friday night, cruising to a 42-6 victory to start the 2016 season off at 1-0.
“I thought it was a pretty good performance,” Corbin Head Coach Justin Haddix said of his team after the win. “We started off kind of sluggish, but we were eventually able to pick it up and get it going. I thought our kids responded well, and kept fighting all night.”
The very early stages of the game actually seemed to favor Whitley, but once the Hounds got on the board they stomped on the gas and never looked back....
Coach Jerry Herron’s Williamsburg Yellow Jackets were given no chance of beating, much less playing with Lexington Christian Academy Friday night, but it took two late touchdowns for LCA to pull out the 32-22 victory.
“You played your best, you played with heart, but you ran out of gas,” Herron told his players after the game.
Williamsburg took the opening kickoff and drove 39 yard to the LCA 32-yardline. When the drive stalled, Herron sent out DC Bowlin, who nailed the 49-yard field goal to give the Jackets the 3-0 lead.
After forcing LCA to punt, the Yellow Jackets drove deep into LCA territory. When the drive stalled, Herron sent Bowlin out...
The Lynn Camp Wildcats left everything they had on their home field against Perry County Central last Friday.
A dropped pass ended the game with the Cats only two points away from a victory.
"We played our hearts out. Perry Central is a good football team," said Head Coach Allen Harris. "Our kids played their guts out, and I am proud of them."
After their impressive performance Friday, it appears as if Lynn Camp may have been underestimated coming into this season. "We showed people tonight that we are for real this year, and we are not done yet," proclaimed Harris.
The Wildcats led Perry Central until the fourth quarter. They scored three...
This year’s Whitley County boys soccer team opened up their season last week with an 8-0 loss to defending 13th Region champs South Laurel. It wasn’t the start the Colonels wanted, but they still looked to be much improved compared to where they were at this point in 2015.
Whitley is being led this season by four seniors, who we are about to meet in the first Senior Spotlight of the 2016-17 school year.
Robbie Perry, a 17-year-old defender, has been playing soccer for seven years. When asked about being a senior Colonel this season, he said, “It feels awesome.”
As for how he thinks things will go for the team this...
The Whitley County Lady Colonels soccer team improved to 2-0 on the season Monday with a 3-1 win over visiting Casey County. Their first win came a week ago Tuesday, when they defeated Wayne County at home 5-0.
“We’re really excited to be undefeated at this point in the season,” said Head Coach Kelly Sawyers. “Even though it was 5-0 against Wayne County, I feel like we played a better game against Casey. The speed of the game was much faster today than it was before.”
Freshman Madison Broyles scored the first goal of the evening Monday, putting the Colonels up 1-0 when she found the back of the net with...
