Williamsburg will be making its first trip to the All A State Softball Tournament for small schools this week at Skyview Park in Jeffersontown. The Lady Jackets will open the 16-team tournament against St. Henry at noon.
The Williamsburg Lady Jackets are trying to stay out of the number four seed in the up-coming softball district tournament. To do what they needed, a win over the South Laurel Lady Cardinals was a must or a win over the Whitley County Lady Colonels Friday.
The Whitley County Colonels are hot! Coach Rob Ledington’s Colonels defeated South Laurel Monday, 5-3 and won their 11th game in the last 12 starts. It was their sixth in a row.
The win also allowed the Colonels to tie the Cardinals for first in the district standings with a 4-1 record and assured Whitley County of at least the number two seed. The teams were scheduled for a second game in London Tuesday afternoon with the top seed on the line.
Lyndsay Champlin, a senior at Corbin High School, has signed with Midway College. The three-year starter for the Lady Redhounds led Corbin to two regional tournaments and enjoyed a 73-44 record in her four years of high school.
Whitley County senior Mike Storms has decided to further his career on the hardwood by signing with the University of the Cumberlands junior varsity with hopes of moving up to the varsity in a couple of years.
Lance Freeman will attend Western Kentucky University on a tennis scholarship. Freeman inked with the Hilltoppers Tuesday at Corbin High School in front of his teammates and student body.
Patience, dedication and a lot of hard work have paid off for Whitley County graduate Jeremy Taylor. Four years ago University of Cumberlands Coach Brad Shelton signed the Colonels leftie and Thursday Taylor lined up beside five teammates who played their final regular season game at Doyle-Buhl Field.

If you are wondering what I am referring to, it's the recent discussions regarding the possibility of moving the 13th Region Tournament to The Arena, where there would be plenty of seating, air conditioning, parking, concessions, bathrooms, and no split sessions (which means no hustling out of the gym or waiting outside in the bad weather to get in).
