Digging Into Success: Whitley 4-H and FFA Youth Excel in Land Judging at KY State Fair

Date:

Whitley County 4-H and FFA youth had an outstanding showing at the Kentucky Land Judging Contest during the Kentucky State Fair.

The junior team brought home a first-place state title for the second year in a row, with nine Whitley County students finishing in the top 15 individually.

In the senior division, Whitley County placed second in the state, with Caden Conlin earning the top individual score overall. The team narrowly missed advancing to the national contest.

The event gave students hands-on experience in soil evaluation, where they judged slope, erosion, and depth, then applied their findings to recommend farming practices.

These real-world skills help prepare them for future careers in agriculture, natural resources, and conservation.

Whitley County was proudly represented by high school, middle school, and elementary youth, showing that the future of WCHS FFA Land Judging is strong. All teams were coached by Brian Prewitt, agriculture teacher at Whitley County High School.
