After the completion of the first two rounds of postseason action, the matchups for this year’s middle school football regional finals are now set.
Whitley County, Corbin and Williamsburg will all have an opportunity to secure a region championship this Saturday, Nov. 1. Those successful in doing so will also advance to the semifinals of the 2025 Kentucky Middle School Football Association state championship playoffs.
The Colonels are still in the hunt in the seventh grade bracket after they defeated Corbin, 20-14, this past weekend. The win has earned them the right to face Somerset in the Region 4 championship this Saturday. Somerset defeated North Laurel and McCreary County to earn their spot in the regional finals.
The Corbin eighth graders’ hopes of successfully defending their state championship title are still alive as they defeated Knox County, 36-12, over the weekend to advance to the Region 4 finals of this year’s Division 2 state championship bracket. The Hounds’ next opponent will be McCreary County, who shut out Pike Central, 16-0, last week.
Finally, the Williamsburg Yellow Jackets are still alive in the eight grade Division 3 bracket, defeating the Hazard Bulldogs, 22-14, to set up a Region 3 championship encounter between them and Somerset, who bested Leslie County, 34-18.
All three of these regional championship games will take place this Saturday, Nov. 1, at Knox Central High School in Barbourville. The day’s action will kick off at 11 a.m. with Northern Pulaski taking on North Laurel in the eighth grade Division 1 regional final. That will be followed by Williamsburg versus Somerset at approximately 1 p.m.
The action will continue with sixth grade competition at 3 p.m. as McCreary County takes on Somerset, followed by the Whitley County seventh graders taking on Somerset at 5 p.m.
Corbin versus McCreary County will serve as the finale contest, and will kick off at approximately 7 p.m.
Admission for these regional championship games will be $10 for adults and $5 for students.
