Pizza Hut Slice of Literacy Grant awarded to local library

Date:

The Whitley County Public Library has been awarded a $10,000 Slice of Literacy Grant from the Pizza Hut Foundation, recognizing the library’s dedication to promoting literacy and engaging with the community.

The Pizza Hut Foundation has partnered with the BOOK IT!® reading program, which has inspired generations of readers for over 40 years and continues to advance literacy efforts nationwide through customer donations and community partnerships.

“We love it because you’re putting the best two things together, which is reading and pizza,” said Brand Officer Greg Chaffin.

Chaffin presented a check for the full $10,000 grant to Children’s Librarian Stacie Davis, representing the Whitley County Public Library.

“At the Pizza Hut Foundation, our mission is to create more possibilities by empowering people, and your work brings that to life,” said Chaffin. “So, thank you so much for all you do, and it’s really our pleasure to present this money to you.”

The grant will directly support the Whitley County Public Library’s efforts to expand literacy programs and make learning accessible to all.

“I’m very excited,” said Davis. “Hopefully we can build and get some [tweens] in here and give them a place to feel safe and socialize.”

The Pizza Hut Foundation’s Slice of Literacy Grant Program supports nonprofits located within 15 miles of a Pizza Hut restaurant that are actively working to improve literacy in their communities.
