An 18-year-old East Bernstadt man allegedly shot a man last month at an apartment off American Greeting Card Road because the man shorted him on a bag of marijuana, according to an arrest warrant in the case.

Laurel District Judge Skip Hammons Jr. entered a not guilty plea for Zachary Setser during his arraignment Friday morning on a charge of attempted murder.
Hammons appointed the Office of Public Advocacy to represent Setser and set a $100,000 bond in his case. Hammons also ordered that Setser have no contact with the victim.
Laurel County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Setser of Willow Branch Road about 9:24 p.m. on July 9 off American Greeting Card Road serving him with the arrest warrant, according to his arrest citation and a Laurel County Sheriff’s Office release.
The arrest stems from a June 26 shooting case that happened about 11 p.m. at an apartment off American Greeting Card Road.
When deputies arrived at the scene, they located the male victim, who had been shot multiple times and was in critical condition. The victim was taken to a local hospital and later transferred to the University of Kentucky Medical Center, according to the release.
“It was learned through investigation who the suspect was and that the shooting had allegedly occurred over a disagreement between the two individuals,” the release stated.
Days later, McDaniel interviewed the victim, who told allegedly police that “he had shorted a male on a bag of marijuana” and Setser came back to the victim’s apartment and shot him several times “because (of) the victim shorting him on the bag of marijuana,” according to the arrest warrant obtained by Sheriff’s Detective Sgt. Taylor McDaniel.
Setser was booked into the Laurel County Correctional Center at 12:05 a.m. on July 10.
Laurel County Sheriff’s Deputy Zach Allen, interdiction unit officer Justin Taylor and Deputy Adam Napier assisted with the arrest.
