Williamsburg’s Zaden Housekeeper was one of six students recognized at the KHSAA Boys’ Sweet Sixteen® State Basketball Tournament as a 2026 Kentucky High School Athletic Association-Kentucky Department of Agriculture Ag Athletes of the Year. Redhounds fall to NL in week 2 of season

Corbin Redhounds hire familiar face as girls basketball coach

Corbin High School basketball coach Tony Pietrowski is taking on a new role with the Redhounds. Corbin Redhounds Athletics announced he will take over the girls basketball program. Pietrowski has spent 25 seasons with the boys team. During his tenure, he compiled 528 career wins. Pietrowski spent two seasons coaching middle school girls basketball while his daughter, Lynnlee, played for the team. Lynnlee will be a freshman this fall. Corbin Lady Redhounds basketball coach steps down

Corbin Lady Redhounds Basketball Head Coach Isaac Wilson is stepping down, according to a social media post by Corbin Redhounds Athletics. Wilson led the team for nine seasons and had a 156-110 record. While at the helm, the Lady Redhounds won a 13th Region Championship in 2022, two 50th District titles in 2023 and 2024, and back-to-back WYMT Food City Mountain Basketball Classic championships in 2022 and 2023. W’burg home to 2026 pole vault state champ

Williamsburg is home to one of the newest 2026 KHSAA state champions. Zyler Housekeeper brought home the gold in pole vault during the 2026 Indoor Track & Field State Championships presented by UK HealthCare. The tournament was hosted in Louisville on March 3. Williamsburg competed in the Class A competition. Corbin and Whitley County competed in the Class AA competition. Region Tournament Recap

The 2026 Martin’s Peterbilt 13th Region Basketball tournament is in the books. Both the Whitley County Colonels and the Corbin Redhounds made it to the final four in the region, but neither team was able to make it to the championship game. Whitley County’s first round win overall Pineville was the program’s first region tournament win since 1974 and the first program appearance at the region tournament since 2011. As for the Redhounds, this year’s tournament marks their 22 consecutive appearance at the region tournament.

A Spot on the Podium

Several student athletes competed at the Kentucky High School Athletic Association’s State Wrestling Tournament hosted at the Kentucky Horse Park. Three student athletes from Corbin High School and one student from Whitley County High School made the podium at the tournament. Corbin Lady Redhound Avah Hammons earned the highest podium position of the local students with a 5th place finish in the girls’ tournament. Whitley County Colonel Landon Bryant finished 6th in the heavyweight division. BJ Jackson, from Corbin, took 7th place in the 138 weight class. Josh Goins took the number eight spot on the podium in the heavyweight division.

13th Region Basketball Tournament brackets announced

Teams advancing to the 2026 Martin's Peterbilt 13th Region Basketball Tournament now know who they will face later this week. Saturday morning's draw began with the girls bracket. Knox Central will take on Middlesboro to tip off the tournament at 6 p.m. on March 2. South Laurel and Clay County will play the night cap at 7:30 p.m. In day two, North Laurel will face Barbourville at 6 p.m. on March 3. Bell County and Whitley County will close out the night at 7:30 p.m. On the boys' side, games begin on March 4. Bell County and Clay County will open the boys tournament at 6 p.m. that night followed by a Pineville and...

District Tournament Tips Off

The Girls’ 50th District Basketball Tournament tipped off at Corbin’s Gilliam Gym Monday night. The first game saw the South Laurel Cardinals fly away with an 80-17 win over Williamsburg. During the nightcap, Corbin’s home court advantage was not enough to get them the win as they played their final game this season. Whitley County’s Lady Colonels will make their return to the region tournament after a 53-46 win over the Lady Redhounds.
