Brent Jackson has led the charge for the Corbin Middle School football program as head coach for the past 28 years. Whitley County High School senior Chris Cureton is a true renaissance man. He is a baseball player, a bass fisherman, he’s the quarterback of the Colonel football team, and he is a trained welder. The Williamsburg Yellow Jackets completed an undefeated run against district opponents, winning their fifth straight game with a 38-0 shutout victory over the visiting Harlan Green Dragons. Meanwhile, the Corbin Redhounds improved to 8-1 overall, 3-0 in district play, with a 49-3 win on the road at Perry County Central. A pair of shutouts in Williamsburg highlight this week's area high school football action. The Whitley County Colonels were thinking upset when they hosted the Corbin Redhounds, but they were never able to get anything going as the Hounds dominated all facets of the game en route to a 49-0 victory. With the win, Corbin improves to 7-1 on the year. The Colonels fall to 4-4. Across town, the the Williamsburg Yellow Jackets had no trouble with visiting Middlesboro, defeating the "other" Jackets by a final score of 36-6. The win puts Williamsburg at 5-1 overall. It was a night of district competition Friday in Corbin and Williamsburg. The Corbin Redhounds hosted their first district game of the season when they welcomed in the Letcher County Central Cougars for this year's Grace Health Bowl. The Hounds were dominant, shutting out the Cougars, 35-0, to improve to 6-1 on the season. Next week, they will make the short trip south on I-75 to face the Whitley County Colonels. It was a night of major victories for coverage area high school football teams. In their first game since Sept. 13, the Williamsburg Yellow Jackets traveled to Pineville Friday to open up district play against the winless Mountain Lions. The Jackets made sure that their opponents remained without a win, dominating with a 48-0 shutout victory. Due to a manhunt for a potentially dangerous gunman in the local area, week four of the 2024 high school football season ended up looking a lot different than it was originally scheduled to. As a precautionary measure, some games were called off completely while others were moved to different locations.
