Increased roster depth should help Whitley County improve this season

Last season, the Whitley County Colonels High School football team didn’t have a lot of depth, only playing 13-15 people most games. “That hurt us probably finishing some of those games. We ran out of gas a few times,” noted Head Coach Matt Rhymer. “This year, I think we can play closer to 22-25 kids. We have upped the depth probably 10 or 12 kids. A big emphasis for us this off season was really focusing on guys, who could get in and get some reps for us, learn what they are doing, get stronger and have confidence to be able to put in the game. I really hope that...

Salmons says expectation is to ‘win every game’ as Hounds kickoff new era

The Corbin Redhounds’ newest head coach, Luke Salmons, has only been in town for a few months, but in that short amount of time he says that he has managed to develop strong relationships with his players and in the local community. “With me, it’s all about the relationships,” Salmons said recently. “I want our kids to understand that this is their team. It’s not my team. I am just there to guide and help them. I want it to be player driven, because if it means more to them, then it’ll make them better. I think they’ve embraced that.” Salmons said that making the move to Corbin this summer from...

Corbin’s season comes to an end with loss at Boyle Co.

In what was a true clash of the high school football titans, the undefeated Corbin Redhounds made the trip to Danville last week to face the also unbeaten Boyle County Rebels in the third round of the 2023 Class 4A state championship playoffs. In the end, the Hounds would fall despite a valiant effort, losing by the final score of 21-14 and closing the book on another historic season. Of course, many thought that this would be the year for Big Red to bring home another state championship title, but not achieving that goal takes nothing away from the long list of accomplishments that the CHS football program has achieved...

Let’s take a look...
