A year later, four senior players – Kelsey Osborne, Taylor Dingess, Chelsea Bozeman and Becky Miller - led the way for what Whitley volleyball hoped would be a successful defense of their 13th Region crown. The Corbin Lady Redhounds Volleyball Team’s season came to an end Monday night with a five-set loss to Montgomery County in the first round of the state tournament.
Playing in front of a sizeable crowd at Gilliam Gym, including a huge section of fellow students and athletes decked out in red, the Lady Redhounds took the first set from 10th Region Champion Lady Indians, 25-19.
Montgomery County won the second set, 25-14.
Corbin appeared to have regained the momentum with a 25-23 win in the third set that included six ties.

The Lady Indians defeated Campbell County in five sets Thursday night to advance.

Corbin won at Whitley County in three sets by scores of 25-18, 5-21 and 25-19.

The Williamsburg Lady Jackets Volleyball team recently participated in the All A State Tournament after winning the 13th Region All A Tournament.
The Lady Jackets defeated Pineville, Jackson County and Lynn Camp in the region tournament to advance to the state tournament last Friday and Saturday at Eastern Kentucky University.
Williamsburg lost to Wolfe County and Bethlehem on Friday and Bishop Brossart on Saturday. The Lady Jackets are 8-8 on the season.

Whitley County High School announced Tuesday that David Halcomb is returning to lead the girls’ volleyball program.
Halcomb, who previously coached the program from 2007 until 2017, led the Lady Colonels to eight district titles and two region championships.
In that same period, Whitley County Volleyball had eight winning seasons.
In April 2018, Halcomb resigned to take over as coach of the girls’ basketball team.
“I am excited about the opportunity to get back into coaching volleyball at Whitley County High School,” Halcomb said. “I take great pride in our volleyball program and the tradition of success it has had over the years.”
